On New Year’s Day Raj Vaidya Dr. Brihaspati Dev Triguna started his last journey at the age of 92.
We honour his great contribution to Ayurveda and humanity.
Vaidya B.D. Triguna had been President of the All India Ayurvedic Congress for many years and held several government positions, including Director of the Central Council for Research on Ayurveda and Chairman of the National Academy of Ayurveda. He was the personal physician for the President of India, titled Raj Vaidya. In 1992 he was awarded the Padma Bhushan, followed by the Indian Government’s second highest civilian award, the Padma Vibhushan Award in 2003.
It is impossible to forget his invaluable contribution to the advancement of Ayurveda in India and abroad. In fact, Dr. Triguna is the father of globalisation of Ayurveda. He worked tirelessly towards standardisation of ayurvedic medicines and certifications at the ayurvedic medical colleges of India. His knowledge of the ancient ayurvedic texts and therapies with herbs and minerals was outstanding.
People knew Vaidya Triguna for his incredible ability in nadi vigyan, the pulse reading. Within a few seconds he could give a diagnosis with unequalled precision. For him no illness was incurable. Treating over 500 patients a day in his practice, regardless whether they were able to pay or not, showed his deeply felt concern for all human suffering. He was a rare embodiment of deep wisdom, compassion, generosity and knowledge, helping the needy until the last days of his life.
We pay tribute to this great exponent of the art and science of Ayurveda and treasure his memory in our hearts.
